Grammar

A multiple choice test covering the following:

Level 1: Present tense, nominative and accusative case of "der" and "ein" words, nominative and accusative pronouns, haben, sein, and modal verbs, and future tense.

Level 2: Nominative, accusative, and dative pronouns, modals, future tense, conversational past of regular and irregular verbs, wors order, commands, as well as grammar from previous levels.

Level 3: Reflexive verbs, dative verbs, coordinating conjunctions, narrative past, as well as grammar from previous levels.

Level 4: Subjunctive II, passive voice, as well as grammar from previous levels.

 

Reading Comprehension

Students read a selection in German and answer level appropriate questions on a scantron sheet.

 

Culture

A multiple choice test with questions on music, art, literature, history, geography, science, and current events. Levels 1 and 2 are in English. Levels 3 and 4 are in German.

 

Vocabulary

A multiple choice test with level-appropriate vocabulary questions. Levels 1 and 2 deal with usage of common German expressions, completing sentences, finding the word that does not belong, and definitions. Level 3 and 4 deal with choosing the correct English word when provided with the Germna word.

Translation (for Native Speakers only)

Native speaker students will translate a piece of prose from English to German and German to English.
