Events at Competition

Students must compete in one of the following combinations of events: two written, an oral and a written, or 2 written and one oral.

Students may also choose to compete in one additional artistic individual event: an art project, a costume, or electronic media.

Students may also opt to take part in the spelling bee (level 1 and 2) or the conjugation bee (level 3 and 4)

Schools may choose to compete as a group in the following: Stammtisch, Scrap Book, Bunter Abend, Wettbewerb, School Banner.

Levels and Special Status

All students compete at the level in which they are enrolled in German unless they are student with a special status.

A Special Student competes at one level above his/her class. A Special Student is defined as having learned more German outside the classroom than inside the classroom.

A Native Speaking Student only competes against native speakers in Poetry and Translation. They do not compete in any other written or oral events, but may take part in an individual artistic event and in school events (excluding Wettbewerb).
