Scholarships

The FASG scholarships from the United German American Society of Florida are awarded tostudents who have been outstanding in their efforts to promote and foster the use of German studies. Application for this award must be completed and sent to Frau Hoefler at New School Prep with a postmark no later than January 30. Applicants need to continue in college/university with the study of German in order to receive the scholarship. (Proof needs to be submitted directly to the United German American Society of Florida.) Check will be distributed upon fulfilled requirements.

Items required for consideration of eligibility for scholarship

  1. Transcript – official school transcripts are required
  2. Recommendation Letters – there should be 2 recommendation letters. One must be from the German teacher and the other from a guidance counselor, administrator, or employer.
  3. Students should submit a list of their volunteer or community service hours, activities, places, etc. This should be signed off by the person in charge.
  4. Lebenslauf – similar to a resume but written in German and should include the following: date of birth, place of birth, parents’ name and profession, how many siblings and ages of siblings, what schools attended and where extracurricular activities, hobbies, employers, plans for the future. Write in paragraph format and use complete sentences.
  5. Written Student Statement – a brief letter in English should state what the student has gained from the study of German and how this knowledge will fit into plans for the future.
  6. Personal Photo – of a current date.

Criteria for Judging

  1. Appearance and poise.
  2. Fluency of language.
  3. Grammatical correctness.
  4. Knowledge of culture.
  5. Plans for the use of the scholarship.
  6. The student's written application and recommendations.
  7. Community service, especially in the area of promotion of German.

The following Items/Information must be received by the scholarship committee before or on October 1st of the year the scholarship was awarded. Recipients are to print a copy of this page and mail this page along with a letter of Thanks and proof of enrollment from the attending college/university as to what course of German Studies they are taking to both of the addresses below.
